SUMMARY:Tall Pines
DESCRIPTION:July’s outing will be in the Piedmont region in Greenville County near Cleveland\, SC to enjoy the cooler temps.\n\nTall Pines WMA is a new 1\,757-acre recreational area for hiking\, hunting and fishing. SCDNR and The Conservation Fund worked together to preserve this area. The property has numerous habitats to support a diversity of fauna and flora. The property consists of uplands and wetlands\, numerous springs\, and 3 lakes. It borders the South Saluda River.\n\nLocation:\n552 – 638 Moody Bridge Road\nCleveland\, SC\nGreenville County\n\nElevation: 997 ft (304 m) There is a 600’ elevation gain to top of Little Mountain\n\nThere are no restrooms on the property. The Sunoco Gas Station on Highway 11\, SC-11 – a.k.a. the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Byway – has restrooms and quick bites.\n\nBring food\, water\, bug repellent\, sun protection and binoculars.\n\nWe will meet at the Moody Bridge Road Parking area. Lake with a lighthouse will be in view.\n\nThe parking lot coordinates are\n35.0645875364865\, -82.56876154236623\n\nGoogle maps:\nhttps://www.google.com/…/data=!4m9!4m8!1m5!1m1…\n\nThere are numerous dirt roads and paths which network through the property.\n\nTrails are on the north and south side of SC-11.\n\nThe south trails take you around the lakes.\n\nThe north side trails take you to dove field and the Saluda River Trail begins across the street from the parking lot.\n\nBoth areas are worth exploring for quail\, turkeys\, beavers\, fox\, grouse\, skunks\, ducks\, reptiles and amphibians. There is a good variety of ferns and wildflowers.\n\nThe eastern boundary area had a recent controlled burn.
