SUMMARY:Childsbury Towne Heritage Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Childsbury Towne Heritage Preserve (Strawberry Chapel)\nBerkeley County\n1046 Strawberry Chapel Rd\, Moncks Corner\, SC 29461\nAnd\nBonneau Ferry Wildlife Management Area\nBerkeley County\nSC-402\, Cordesville\, SC 29434\nRegional Director: Paul Kalbach \nNote: Strawberry Chapel is a private historical site next to the Heritage Preserve. While we do not have access to the property\, it is clearly visible from the road and low fence allows for photos of the chapel and cemetery. \nChildsbury Towne Heritage Preserve is a property managed by the SC Department of Natural Resources\nhttps://www2.dnr.sc.gov/ManagedLands/ManagedLand/ManagedLand/29\nThe property is small but contains a number of interesting features. The property sits between the Strawberry Chapel property and the Cooper River. There is one main trail running from the parking area to the river where there is a large dock overlooking the water. Immediately upriver is the rail drawbridge just below Pimlico and just downriver are old rice fields of Rice Hope Plantation (bring your scopes). Adjoining the Strawberry Chapel property is a field of\ntall grass (higher than my head) and some mature live oaks. The trail is wide\, clear and well-maintained. \nBonneau Ferry Wildlife Management Area is an 11\,000 acre property managed by SCDNR. The property borders the Francis Marion National Forest and the west branch of the Cooper River. It is made up of hardwood bottomland\, small lakes and the remains of a rice plantation dating back to the 1700s. \nLinks for more information can be found in the September newsletter. \nDirections:\nTo Childsbury Towne Heritage Preserve\nFrom Charleston – 58 min (40.7 mi)\nTake US-17 N\, SC-41 N\, SC-402 W and Sawmill Rd to State Rd S-8-44/Strawberry Ferry Rd in\nBerkeley County\n1.
