DESCRIPTION:Annual Meeting Agenda\n9:30-10:15: Socializing and refreshments (coffee and donuts).\n10:15-10:30: Welcome and Introductions\n10:30-11:30: Bob Perry – Bob will talk about S.C. Department of Natural Resource’s approach to landscape\nscale conservation by highlighting their focus area projects where they partner with other agencies\,\nconservation organizations and private landowners. Examples include the ACE Basin\, Jocasee Gorges and\nthe COWASEE Basin.\n11:30-12:45: Lunch\n12:45-1:45: William “Will” Richardson Doar\, III – Will Doar will give us an overview of South Carolina’s\ngeology and focus on the post-Cretaceous deposits of the South Carolina Coastal Plain. The presentation\nwill include a brief geologic history\, a history of geological mapping for the state\, and the current\ngeological concepts concerning the coastal plain. Although the focus of Will’s presentation concerns the\nCoastal Plain\, questions regarding the piedmont and upstate can also be addressed.\n1:45-3:15: Ron Lance* – Ron will give us instruction on regional winter tree and shrub identification. He\nwill show us how leafless twigs can be used to identify deciduous woody plants in winter. Ron will present\na detailed introduction to the characters and terminology used to describe twigs and bark\, as well as\npractice using a dichotomous key. Samples of twigs will be provided\, and participants are urged to\nbring a hand lens to observe minute details. The indoor portion of this seminar will be followed by\noutdoor practice in tree and shrub identification.
