SUMMARY:Paris Mountain - Sulphur Springs Trail
DESCRIPTION:Paris Mountain State Park\nGreenville\, SC\nSaturday June 25\, 2022\, 10:30 am \nCome explore the coolness in the mountain forest in the Piedmont region of South Carolina.  Paris Mountain State Park was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and its lakes used as reservoirs for Greenville’s water supply.  At 1060’ Paris Mountain is a monadnock located 6 miles north of Greenville\, SC. There are 1\,700 acres with 17 miles of trails\, 4 lakes\, plenty of creeks and historical buildings to SCAN. There is something for everyone\, including herps\, flora\, birds\, butterflies\, fungi and history. \nThere is an entrance fee of $6 per adult for those younger than 65 and $3.75 for those older.  We will meet at the Park Center. The parking area is on your left across the street from the Park Center. Restrooms are available throughout the park.\n\nThe trails: \nAll trails are well marked. Mountain Creek and Sulphur Springs are wide hard packed clay trails with some rocks and roots for excitement. \nPlease download a map on phone for navigation or print off a map at home. Maps are available at Park Center for $2. \n  \nLake Placid Trail behind the Park Center is 0.75 miles. Swimming is allowed at no charge.  Kayaks can be rented for $5 per 30 minutes. \nMountain Crest Trail begins from the Park Center.  For the first mile the trail follows the shallow creek and passes through a wetland. Lots to explore via creek or trail. This is a good area for amphibians. \nFrom the Brissy Ridge parking lot\, walk the Sulphur Springs Trail through pine and oak forest for 1.2 miles to the Fire Tower Trail. This spur is 0.4 miles to the remains of a 4-room house and former location of the 80’ fire tower. \nMountain Lake is a hidden gem. The 5th parking area from the Park Center there is a 3 car parking spot on the left\, The trail is 0.26 from this parking area.  If parking lot is full use the very large parking lot just below.  (4th parking lot from Park Center\, marked as Mountain Lake Parking) This parking area is huge with shelter\, fire pit\, restrooms\, and a few trails. The Sulphur Springs trail will take you to Mountain Lake in less than a mile. \nMountain Lake has plenty of activity from red spotted newts\, fish\, tadpoles\, sliders.  A beautiful spillway\, old pump tower housing gears to view. \nNorth Lake is at the top end of Paris Mountain SP.  Walk 2.81 miles to the 15-acre lake. There is a nice 1-mile trail around the lake as well. There is a 500’ elevation descent on last 1.2 miles to the lake.
