SUMMARY:Santee Coastal WMA
DESCRIPTION:Santee Coastal Reserve WMA\nCharleston and Berkeley Counties\nSaturday\, February 23\, 2019 | 10:30am \nFrom Southern Regional Director Marcus Sizemore:\nUnfortunately\, our plans for meeting at Spring Island fell through this month. However\, we will instead be visiting Santee Coastal Reserve Wildlife Management Area. This 24\,000 acre area is known for wading and migratory birds\, miles and miles of old rice plantation dikes and brackish marsh. There are also pine plantations and freshwater wetlands leaving plenty of diverse habitats to explore. This time of year the bugs shouldn’t be too bad\, but it’s always advisable to bring bug spray\, especially if it happens to be a warm day. There is a boardwalk section offers some great opportunity to access some of the wetland areas without getting your feet wet. \nAfter our day of sauntering and exploring\, we’ll meet for dinner at Seewee Restaurant south of McClellanville. It’s approximately 25 miles south of the WMA and offers a variety of seafood and other southern dishes. The full menu can be found at their website: https://seeweerestaurantinc.com/ \nDirections: \nFrom Charleston:\nDrive approximately 45 miles from Charleston on US17 North. Once past the small Town of McClellanville\, turn right onto South Santee Road. Follow the signage to the kiosk along Santee Gun Club Road. The Parking area is approximately 3 miles on the right. \nFrom Georgetown: Drive south on US 17 for approximately 15.0 miles. One mile beyond the South Santee River Bridge turn left onto Charleston County S-10-857 (Santee Rd.). Drive for approximately 1.4 miles and turn left at Lillypond Mission Baptist Church onto Santee Gun Club Road. Follow the signage to the kiosk along Santee Gun Club Road. The parking area is 3.0 miles on the right. \nPhysical address:\nSantee Coastal Reserve WMA\n220 Santee Gun Club Road\nMcClellanville\, SC 29458 \nCoordinates:\n33.147765\, -79.396188 \nSeeWee Restaurant:\n4808 N Hwy 17\nAwendaw\, SC 29429\n(843) 928-3609
