SUMMARY:Pinnacle Falls Community
DESCRIPTION:Regional Director Special Trip\n\n\nPinnacle Falls Community\n\n\nHenderson County\, NC\n\n\nRegional Director: Rita Zollinger\n\n\n \n\n\nNOTE THE EARLIER START TIME\n\n\n \n\n\nThe forest is beautiful\, and the streams are full with waterfalls and cascades abounding from the headwaters through the length of Pinnacle Falls Community along Cabin Creek and its tributaries. The 350 acre ridge and valley community is nestled between Pinnacle Mountain\, Hammond Mountain and Huckleberry Ridge in Henderson County\, North Carolina.\n\n\n \n\n\nCeille and Jim Welch have once again invited us to their cabin. Their hospitality extends to coffee\, juice\, and donuts on their long front porch\, and restroom use before our walk.\n\n\n \n\n\nFor the morning and early afternoon saunter there is much to see walking up the hill to the top of the cul de sac and back down to the lower Huckleberry Lane\, and along it to Cabin Creek trail\, continuing to the falls. We will explore Pinnacle Falls Lane below the bridge to see the old cabin chimney which dates to early last century.\n\n\n \n\n\nAlong the way we may see Pink Lady Slipper Orchids\, Violets\, Bluets\, Horse sugar and perhaps Jack-in-the-pulpit and Trillium. Let’s see what else our wildflowers walk shows!\n\n\n \n\n\nWe may spot some furry and feathered residents — chipmunks\, groundhogs\, deer\, black bear\, bobcat\, or turkeys along with a variety of amphibians and reptiles.\n\n\n \n\n\nFor those adventurous souls\, there is a trail\, albeit steep in places\, to the top of Huckleberry Ridge behind their cabin if anyone wants to see the flora there. It is not an easy trail but does exhibit a few different plants and good views across the valley. There is a rope installed along the steepest part of the ridge.\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nWelch Cabin Location: \n\n\nPinnacle Falls Community\n\n\n171 Juniper Berry Lane\n\n\nHendersonville\, NC\n\n\n \n\n\nThere is plenty of parking on Berry Lane cul de sac. Jim and I will be at the Pinnacle Falls Community gate to greet you. From there\, we’ll proceed to Juniper Berry Lane.\n\n\n \n\n\nDirections to rendezvous at Pinnacle Falls Community gate:\n4459 Ball Mountain Rd\, Zirconia\, NC 28790\n\n\n\nFrom I-26 take Exit 54 in NC to Highway 25 South.\n\n\n\n\nTake Exit 5\, Tuxedo/Flat Rock/ 225.
