Vereen Memorial Park

December 10, 2016 @ 10:30 am - 4:00 pm

Vereen Memorial Park and Gardens
Horry County, SC
Regional Director: Jeffrey J Kline
Day of Contact: Kim Frampton McManus

Our December field trip takes us to a quaint nature gem of a park. Vereen Park and Gardens is situated on a broad salt marsh along the Intracoastal Waterway, and has three miles of trails and a nice marsh boardwalk and fishing pier. The park features historical
sites as well as a beautiful natural environment, including a stretch of the colonial-era King’s Highway, and the Vereen family cemetery with Revolutionary War graves. There will be opportunities for kayaking also, if anyone wants to bring their own boat.

Regional Director Jeffrey J Kline is scoping out a restaurant for us to try after our field trip is over. Since we’ll be just south of the famous eating destination of Calabash, NC, I think you can probably expect to dine on some Calabash-style seafood!

Directions:
2250 South Carolina Highway 179
Little River, SC 29566
(843) 249-4157

The park is located right on US 17 in Little River, South Carolina, just about a tenth of a mile south of the North Carolina border. Stay on Highway 17 North until you reach Highway 179. Veer right and the gardens are immediately on your right.

There are no bathroom facilities, portable toilets only.

Admission is free
